It’s been a little over a week since Alec has passed away and it’s been really difficult. I wish the world would slow down for a little while and let me figure out what to do next. But I still have to go to work, make dinners, and take out the trash. My family and I have been given a lot of support from family, friends, and strangers that has helped us through this last week. However, at the same time I am so happy for Alec, the last 6 months of his life were really difficult, painful, and lonely and I like to think that he is feeling pretty good now that he has relief from that.

Though Alec is gone, we plan to keep the AJU Foundation going. My family and I have talked about it and we feel that the foundation will be a great way for us to honor his memory and share his story. It was Alec’s courageous smile that kept us going when it was the most difficult and it is the memory of his smile now that helps us now. We want to continue giving other cancer fighters and their family members a reason to smile and keep moving forward. Life is so temporary and we want them to enjoy the time they have.

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers for my family. We are truly blessed to have known and lived with Alec.
